Looking for a new refrigerator?
Whether you’re in the market for a top of the range fridge-freezer, or a cheap and reliable bar fridge, we can help you make the right choice for your needs.
Refrigerators are a long-term appliance investment so you'll want to carefully consider the main aspects of each model to ensure it meets your family's needs.
Things to consider:
While you need to consider the capacity requirements for your family’s needs, you also need to keep in mind the space available in your kitchen for your refrigerator. Measure the allowable space for a refrigerator, then decide on capacity before you go any further. It's also a good idea to confirm that the size you buy can be easily brought into your home; some basement apartments may have smaller doorways or narrow hallways.
What size do I need?
The following guide should help you at least narrow your options for the size you require:
Family size Combined fridge & freezer size
1-2 people 200-380 litres
3-4 people 350-530 litres
5+ people 440 litres +
Height clearance is important if there are overhead cabinets.
Refrigerators can produce high levels of heat and it’s important to ensure there is sufficient space around your refrigerator to allow the heat to escape and prevent overheating. Check the specific space requirements for each model prior to purchasing.
Onboard Water/Ice Dispensing
If you will be installing a refrigerator with onboard water or ice dispensing features, it may need a plumbing hook-up.
The direction of a refrigerator door can influence the efficiency and convenience of your kitchen. Before choosing a model, consider the traffic flow through, workspace and proximity to counters and cabinets. Many models offer the option of both left and right handed doors, meaning you can choose which way the door opens. Some models are easily convertible – your installer can simply switch the door from one side to the other, in your home, however others need to be ordered specifically. Make sure you consider this before buying.
If you want a stainless steel fridge / freezer or bar refrigerator, consider one with a fingerprint resistant finish – especially if you have small children at home!
